Can productive people rest?

Where did the forty-hour workweek come from — and why can’t we just work forty hours? At MIT, we have an uneasy relationship with work-life balance. Taking a break is hard to justify when you’re trying to cure cancer.

Dr. Sivan holds an MA and a PhD in sociology from the University of Chicago.
