Can an economy be humane? Critics of capitalism argue that it leaves the most vulnerable in the dust; supporters point to the successes in human health and wealth with the rise of global free markets.
But assessments of economic inequality often rest on a narrow view of the person and human welfare. Octet is inviting Mary Hirschfeld, Associate Professor of Theology and Business Ethics at Notre Dame, to discuss how the demands of the market intersect with the needs of whole persons in community.
Dr. Hirschfeld holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University, a PhD in Moral Theology from the University of Notre Dame, and is the author of Aquinas and the Market (Harvard University Press, 2018).
